Rome, the Eternal City
Recommended itinerary
If you want to sample the everyday life like a local, Testaccio and Aventino districts are the places you should visit. The following itinerary takes about 1,5 hours on foot, or less if you will use the free bike hire service.
The closest tourist attraction is the Pyramid Of Cestius which is attached to the Protestant Cemetery. A short walk from here will take you to Monte dei Cocci. You are in Testaccio, which happens to be the best foodie neighbourhood in town and the Testaccio market will definitely worth a visit. Another foodie destination is Volpetti deli shop and if you are in the mood for a good coffee and excellent pastries, you can stop to caffè Barberini.
A 10 minutes walk will take you to Aventino, another non touristy area with fabulous spots like the secret Key Hole, the well preserved ancient church of Santa Sabina and the most romantic place in Rome, the Orange Garden. Further away, you will find the Mouth of Truth, where Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn shoot a scene for the celebrated movie “Roman Holiday”.
